Asian carriers fill top five slots: report
Air India’s low-cost international arm Air India Express and budget carrier IndiGo are among the top five lowest cost airlines in the world, according to Melbourne-based travel planning site Rome2rio.
India ranks fourth among 46 countries with lowest average air fares, while Chile is at the top and Nepal at the bottom of the rankings.
200 carriers surveyed
The study ranks 200 airlines in the world on the basis of average price per kilometre. Air India Express was at second place with an average fare of ₹5.39 per km and IndiGo ranked third with an average fare of ₹6.72 per km.
Full-service carriers Jet Airways and Air India secured 12th and 13th positions, as per the 2018 global flight price rankings compiled by Rome2rio.
All of the top five positions were grabbed by Asian carriers with Air Asia X ranked first, Indonesia AirAsia third and Primera Air fourth.
For Europe-bound travellers, Ryanair came high in the list at seventh with a cost of ₹6.72 per km ($0.10/km).
Among Gulf carriers, Etihad secured sixth position, Qatar Airways was at 15 and Emirates at 25.
The study analysed economy fares at the Rome2rio site between January and February 2018.
